The Telegraph reported yesterday that Nissan has unveiled its new van-based NV200 vehicle. Nissan claims it is 50% more fuel efficient than existing cabs, saving cab drivers up to £700 a year in fuel costs.
The new design, already been declared as an official new cab for Tokyo and New York, will first appear on London streets in spring 2014, including the eNV200 electric version.
The eNV200 electric cab boasts running costs estimated to be around one fifth of a conventional, diesel-powered taxi. It will arrive six years ahead of the Mayor’s target of 2020 for the introduction of a zero emissions taxi.
